Chopsticks in Cascade for Quilt Market

I was so honored and excited to be selected by Jessica Levitt, to make something with her new line of fabric for her booth at Quilt Market!

Her new line is called Cascade, and is distributed through Windham Fabrics. The line features some large focal prints, and a variety of medium and small prints. My favorites are the raindrops, and the prints that look like falling rain - that one is a great blender!

 I made the Chopsticks Quilt, by Julie Herman, at Jaybird Quilts, which is a great pattern to use to show off large scale prints. The amazing quilting was done by Angela Walters, and there are, of course, some really neat details in the quilting.

I also made the Rock Candy Table Topper, and the Seaside Table Runner, both by Julie Herman as well. I have to say, I'm not one keen on having a million rulers, but Julie's rulers are awesome! I cannot wait to use them for other projects! Both of these use the Sidekick Ruler, which is super easy to use, the lines are easy to see, and Julie's directions are very clear.

I quilted both of these myself, and I was really pleased at how well they turned out!

Blogger's Quilt Festival: Low Volume Log Cabin

This is one of my submissions for Blogger's Quilt Festival. I am so in love with my new quilt! The FWMQG held a low volume challenge this fall, and this was my submission.



I am so glad I decided to add some blocks to it to make it throw size, instead of baby size. I love the way it came out, and it is nice to have a new quilt to cuddle under now that it is finally cooling off!



I used cool colored squares for the centers of each block, and cut 2.5" strips for the logs. I used some quiet prints from my stash, purchased some, and participated in a swap to receive others.



I backed it in one of my favorite prints (an old American Jane alphabet print) with a column of green and blue solids in the center. I quilted around the squares of the log cabin, and bound it with a favorite multi-colored print.

Just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow's post will be up late. The stomach bug is at our house and I seem to have been hit the hardest. Blech! I'll do my best to get it up tomorrow night. Thanks for understanding!

Blogger's Quilt Festival: Paintchip Quilt

Welcome to my entry for the Blogger's Quilt Festival! I am so excited to share this quilt with you - it is one of my favorites!



Many moons ago I was inspired by this quilt from Kati at From the Blue Chair. But I wanted more of a random color assortment. I also really wanted to use the wonderful Ombre prints from Simply Color.



I laid out the fabric and figured out that if I cut 2.5" squares, each square would 'read' as it's own color. So I purchased half yards of each color, and chopped them all up!

I could not be more pleased with how this turned out! I chose to quilt it through every other square using light grey thread. I backed and bound it with Kona Medium Grey - I debated using a print, but decided that the front was so busy it needed a quiet back.

I love this quilt, and sort of (crazily!) want to make another one! I love small simple patchwork, and this was a great project for chain piecing and simple mindless sewing!

Baby Cardigan

I recently finished up this sweet little cardigan for friends of ours who are having a baby girl this spring. The pattern is Anya's Cardigan from Vintage Knits for Modern Babies. I used Ella Rae Baby Cotton that I found at Tuesday Morning for $1.99/ball! What a steal!

I actually had started this for Ellie but it was put aside for some reason. But it worked out to be the right size for another little girl!

I think it is very cute, but be warned there are several small errors in the pattern, and if I knit it again I would change the button bands because they have a great deal of stretch as written and it is hard to match them to the sweater fronts.

WIP Wednesday, the slow edition

At the first of the year I decided to conquer my fears of English Paper Piecing. I got out my hexie shapes and some hoarded Wee Play, and got busy! I was hooked right away! I have been stashing bits and pieces of all of Sandy Klopp's American Jane lines just for this project. A few days ago I started joining my hexies. Slow going, but very enjoyable!
I'm also planning to make Vanessa Christensen's Bloom quilt (which I cannot find anyone on the Internet has made yet), which will also take some time. I'm in the midst of tracing my petal shapes onto the fabric, which is the first step. Another slow project I'm looking forward to!

WIP Wednesday

I managed to get three quilt tops finished this week!

The plus quilt is a commissioned quilt for Samantha's best friend. The Modern maples is just for fun and the green triangles is to be our Christmas tree skirt! I'm excited to get these quilted and finished.

What I'm working on

I've been immersed in quilts this week-trying to finish up a few and starting some new projects. I finished hand quilting my crosses quilt, and I quilted and bound two others! I started piecing my Modern Maples quilt and pieced the trees for my Christmas tree skirt. I'm hoping to get three quilt tops pieced next week too!

Modern Half Square Triangles Quilt-a-Long Block 3

Good afternoon! My apologies for getting today's post up later than normal. We've had company in town and a big 4th birthday party, and I totally spaced on scheduling my post for this morning! Anyway, here is block 3!

(If you are just joining us, information about materials can be found here, and here are the previous blocks: Block 1, Block 2.

Materials:
8 3.5" squares of Color A
8 3.5" squares of Color B

*note* these are the essential materials for each block, so you can cut several blocks worth of fabric at once to save time!

Create your blocks, following the same procedure as last week. If you need help making your blocks, please see this post. You should end up with 16 2.5" squares. Ready to lay out your block? Here we go!

After you have sewn your squares into rows, press your seams. I like to press odd numbered rows to the left, and even to the right. It helps to use a small piece of paper to number your rows. I like the tiny post-it notes. 

After pressing, you are ready to sew your rows together! Pin, if necessary, but I find that these short rows don't require pinning. 

Press one final time, and voila! Another finished block! Only 69 to go! Remember to add your blocks to our flickr group!

Superheroes!

Samantha and our neighbor boys have been big into the dress up lately. We've been pirates, and knights, but superheroes have really taken hold of Liam (Samantha's best friend). He had a Spiderman birthday party, and I knew he would like some fresh dress-up goodies! I had seen the pattern for these masks on pinterest, and decided that they would be perfect!



The boys have been wearing them every day, and they were quick and easy to make - a great gift!

Liam gave out superhero capes as party favors and they have been enjoyed in our house! You can see more pictures from the party on his mom's blog.
