Good morning! Today I'm going to talk to you about how to sash your blocks if you choose to. I personally detest sashing. Trying to line up all of the blocks along both sides of a skinny piece of fabric so they aren't off at all is a huge pain! A few years ago I figured out that I could just extend the block size on two sides to act as sashing, and it has been life saving. It is very easy too!
You will need about three yards of your sashing color. Cut seven strips 8 1/2" tall. Subcut those into 2.5" strips. You should have 112 pieces.
Cut four 2 1/2" strips of your cornerstone color (I used one of my block colors). Subcut into 2 1/2" squares. You should have 56.
Sew your cornerstones to 56 of the sashing strips. Press and set aside.
Sew the remaining 56 sashing strips to the right side of 56 of your blocks. Press well (I like to press toward the sashing to reduce seam bulk).
Then sew the sashing+cornerstone strips to the bottom of the 56 blocks. Press well.
Next week we assemble!
